Burning Horse

Bringing the festy scene to Southland

Food – Kai

Burning Horse takes place on a family farm: The Montana Flat.  A third generation, conventional sheep and beef farm which produces 6000 lambs and 100 cattle annually. Riversdale soils and the Northern Southland climate combine to provide excellent growing conditions and a long season.  The Montana Flat employs 3 full-time staff; Ryan Burns – Diploma in Rural Business and Farm Management, Zeb Horrell – Bachelor of Agricultural Science and Rohan Horrell – boasting nearly 50 years experience.

Whilst aspiring to hold true to its foundations, this property is in a transformative stage.  Evolving from single-use agriculture to a hub of innovation and potential allows us to target sustainability and regeneration while providing an excellent platform for diversity so that we can extend the range of food produced.  Taking advantage of this special position allows us to offer a range of menu choices, the majority of which have been grown, harvested and prepared within walking distance of the Burning Horse festival site.

Our plan is to ensure that a range of food options are available – good for the body and soul! Where possible we will offer local, sustainably sourced ingredients and a range of alternative options to the ya standard hot dog and chips.

You are of course welcome to bring picnics and anything you need for a cook up in your camp site! Whatever suits your fancy!
